China has overtaken the United States to become the world’s leading country in science, according to a new ranking by the SJR (Scimago Journal Rank) Index.
The ranking is based on a number of factors, including the number of scientific papers published, the number of citations those papers receive, and the quality of the journals in which they are published.

The United States remains a global leader in science and technology, but its ranking has slipped slightly in recent years. This is due in part to the fact that China has been catching up quickly.
